I had always wanted to travel to Patagonia … at last we made it, following a marvelous two weeks on Easter Island, Rapa Nui. We traveled up the pampas from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales, finally to Parque Nacional Torres del Paine. It is an enchanted place. Not the end of the earth, but the BEGINNING, as one of the guides at Explora Patagonia told us.
As soon as we arrived, unpacked and had lunch, a simple little walk up a knob, Mirador de los Condors, provided dramatic views of the Massif and a taste of the famed wind.
We had all sorts of weather, rain, sun, wind, gorgeous clouds swirling around the peaks. A rainy day trek to Lake Nordenskjold was enjoyable even though we never had the great view of the massif with the horns in our face…..
Another rainy day excursion was to Lake Grey to see our first glaciers and the large lake. It all left a taste for more!
