Our trek of Lago Sarmiento covered 4 kms (2.5 m). It is a huge lake, with a coastline of 78.3 kms (48.6 m). The outstanding feature is the formation of exotic buttes and piles of calcium deposited along the shoreline and in the water. They create marvelous reflections and provide caves in which the puma live.
The calcium deposits are composed of sand, aragonite shells of gastropods and filamentous cyanobacterium enclosed in a clotted structure of Calcite magnesian.
From there we drove farther to the QUINCHO where an amazing barbecue took place, three lambs on vertical spits , slowly roasted for five or so hours, overseen by the amiable gaucho, Victor. So delicious! I want more!!
